¾ of Ukrainian citizens do not expect positive changes in the future

The majority of Ukrainian citizens believe that in the future the situation in the country will not change or will change for the worse. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Only 12% of respondents expect the country’s economic situation to improve by the end of 2017, 36% expect it to worsen, and 40% believe that it will not change.

At the same time, 23% of respondents believe that in the next 2-3 years the economic situation of the country will change for the better, 27% - it will become worse, 24% - that it will not change. Thus, even over the next 2-3 years, only about a quarter of respondents expect positive changes in the economic situation of the country, and even fewer expect them during the current year.

The respondents' expectations of changes in the level of well-being of their family differ very little from the forecasts of changes in the economic situation of the country.

Among those surveyed, 12% expect their family’s well-being to improve by the end of 2017, 31% expect it to worsen, and 42% believe that the financial situation will not change.

24% of respondents believe that in the next 2-3 years the level of well-being of their families will change for the better, 24% - will change for the worse, 23% - that it will not change.

“In fact, three quarters of Ukrainians, unfortunately, do not expect positive changes in the country,” Vasily Yurchyshyn, director of the Razumkov Center for Economic Programs, comments on the survey results.

In western Ukraine, respondents are more optimistic. Predicting the development of the situation until the end of 2017, residents of the Western region are noticeably less likely to expect a worsening of the country’s economic situation (14%, while in other regions – from 39%

up to 48%). Over the next 2-3 years, 39% of residents of the Western region expect an improvement in their economic situation, while in other regions - from 12% to 22%.

The study was conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center from April 21 to April 26, 2017. 2018 respondents aged 18 years and over were surveyed in all regions of Ukraine, with the exception of the Donbass territories not controlled by Kyiv.
