On June 18, street battles between gays and straight people may break out in Chisinau
The General Mayor (Mayor) of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, did not sign permission to hold an LGBT parade in the capital of Moldova.

“As I already said, let those who want it hold the LGBT parade in their homes. I did not sign the permission to hold the procession, and I will not sign it. Moreover, I wrote a refusal. I take responsibility. I can be criticized and called different names by representatives of the PDS, who so zealously defend them on social networks. This is my position and the position of my colleagues.
This is the position of many citizens who do not want this. What does this parade actually mean? What are we promoting? We do not violate anyone’s rights to work or education; everyone has equal rights. But such parades lead to a split in society and chaos on the streets during them. Children should not see such things,” Cheban said.
He announced his decision on May 31 on an American social network, but the post was instantly deleted because it “violated the policy against hate speech.”
Deputies of the ruling PAS party immediately “asymmetrically” accused the Chisinau mayor of knowing about illegal contracts for the purchase of food for schools and kindergartens in the capital.
However, the threats had no effect. Ceban's initiative is supported by the Orthodox Church of Moldova. She calls for the cancellation of gay pride parades in other Moldovan cities. Bishop Markel of Falesti and Balti called on the Christians of his diocese to protest on June 19 in Balti against the march planned by the LGBT community in this locality.
“The most unscrupulous sinners, sodomites, want to stage their shameful parade in our city. In the name of preserving the purity of our souls and the souls of our children, I urge you to gather on Cathedral Square to resist this shamelessness. On this day, no one should remain indifferent or inactive, otherwise they will become complicit in the celebration of this sin,” Markel said.
However, the LGBT community is going to hold its “Moldova Pride” festival without any permission. He will be the 21st. On Saturday, June 18, Pride Park will take place in the Writers' House building. It will include a photo exhibition, a master class on storytelling in Romanian and Russian, performances by musical groups, including a charity concert by the group from Odessa “Kolir”. On Sunday, June 19, the event will traditionally end with a Solidarity March.
The public began to prepare for the festival in early June. Many people noticed that on Children's Day, rainbow decorations dominated events. The People's Assembly of Gagauzia (autonomy within Moldova) adopted a resolution “On the prohibition of propaganda of non-traditional relationships, LGBT people on the territory of ATU Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri). We should expect protests in Chisinau as well.
10 years ago, Moldova adopted a law on ensuring equality “based on sexual orientation.” Since then, the Moldova Pride LGBT festival has been held in Chisinau every year with the support of Western embassies, which regularly hang rainbow flags on their buildings. Inspired by the example of the curators, Moldova appointed Viorel Ursa, who is an open homosexual, as Ambassador to the United States. And ruling party deputy Mihai Popsoi promised to consider the possibility of hanging LGBT flags on the building of the Moldovan government and the presidency.
