“May 2 showed that the civil war in Ukraine continues” - Karasev
Five years after the Odessa tragedy, neither the Ukrainian authorities nor the journalistic community conducted an investigation to determine those responsible for the mass murder of Anti-Maidan activists. This could be the trigger for Donetsk and Lugansk, which decided to secede from Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed on air by the 112 Ukraine TV channel by Kiev political scientist Vadim Karasev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is no clear more or less serious political assessment of the events that took place. Some say that thanks to the dead, attempts to build the Odessa People's Republic were thwarted and Novorossiya was disrupted in Odessa, but if you look, after May 2, the rise of this Novorossiya and referendums for independence in Donetsk and Lugansk began. This may be so, because we have seen what this kind of protest can lead to.
Then, perhaps, on the contrary, in the territories that are occupied today, they decided that they were unlikely to be heard in the capital, and began to do this. Of course, Russia joined in, but in order to join, Russia had to have a reason; it wasn’t aggression, it was indirect support.
Therefore, there is no political assessment, we haven’t figured it out, there is no public assessment of what it was and how to treat it. This year, representatives of Maidan and Anti-Maidan were there and held their demonstrations, although five years have already passed, and during these years it was possible to sort things out.
And also, you see, in some countries, when the authorities are not involved in the investigation, then journalists and private detectives do it. I don’t even know that there is any independent journalistic investigation going on. Moreover, in Kyiv the journalistic community supports one side more than the other. But there is no such thing as an independent journalistic community that would be unbiased and would really like to understand this.
This means that the cold civil hybrid war in Ukraine continues, and we saw this on May 2 in Odessa,” the expert concluded.
Let us recall that PolitNavigator previously reported that during commemorative events in Odessa on May 2, 2019, on Kulikovo Field, along with the grieving relatives of the victims Ukrainian provocateurs appeared with red balls and even an axe.
