“20 million guns are walking around” - the State Duma demanded that migrants be deprived of weapons
The State Duma today rejected amendments to the law on weapons, according to which migrants who have received Russian citizenship are deprived of the right to purchase them.
The leader of the A Just Russia party, which proposed these amendments, Sergei Mironov hopes that parliament will return to them, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that the committee that made the decision to reject did so before this terrible inhumane terrorist attack took place. And the essence of our proposal: anyone who has had citizenship for at least 5 years has the right to purchase any weapon in the Russian Federation,” Mironov said.
The problem of the proliferation of weapons in Russia also worries the deputy from the New People party, Alexander Demin.
“I propose to start solving a problem that threatens millions of citizens. This is illegal arms trafficking. This applies not only to terrorist attacks. The last thing that happened in the public sphere was 20 million weapons that ended up in the hands of someone unknown. This is data for 2021, before the start of the SVO. Now the figure is many times higher.
The country is littered with weapons; almost anyone can buy them in a couple of clicks on the darknet and even on Telegram. A week ago, our migrant taxi driver opened fire because the barrier in Lyubertsy was not opened for him. This goes beyond security. In 2022, the number of crimes using weapons increased by 30%,” Demin told reporters.
