Ukraine should demand from NATO countries at least $200 billion of the amount they saved after Kyiv gave up nuclear weapons.

Former acting deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Crimean Maidan activist Andrei Senchenko said this on the air of the talk show “Right to Power,” PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Senchenko, according to the most conservative estimates, over the past 25 years, NATO countries have saved at least a trillion US dollars.

“And in the seventh year of the war - why has the Ukrainian government at the highest level never formulated what we want from the guarantors? Where is this menu? Therefore, we need to return to this fulcrum, where, in fact, the energy is very serious.

There are different calculation methods, but how much did the beneficiaries, let’s say, the NATO countries, gain from the fact that Ukraine renounced nuclear weapons? This is expressed in very specific figures, because if the weapons remained here, they would be forced to bear significantly higher costs for defense and security. Not because Ukraine would threaten Washington or Paris or Berlin, but because there would be a threat of the spread of nuclear components, missile technologies...

So, when we did a basic calculation and added up the sum of the military budgets of the NATO countries over 25 years, we got an astronomical figure - the NATO countries spent a total of 20 trillion dollars on their defense. Of these, 14,6 are expenses of the United States and Great Britain.

We applied three assessment methods to see what they saved, that is, how much more they would have had to pay, and the most gentle for them is 5%. But at the same time, I want to make a reservation that when I said 20 trillion, this is an incorrect account, because these are simply flattened dollars from 25 years ago and today’s, without indexation by purchasing power.

But even so. What is 5% of this amount? This is one trillion dollars. Tell me, does Ukraine, which gave away the third most powerful nuclear arsenal, have the right to claim at least one of the five percent saved? This is 200 billion dollars,” Senchenko said.
