30 years of life in Ukraine almost destroyed the identity of the Crimean Tatars - Mustafayev
The extremist Majlis tried to integrate the Crimean Tatars into the society of Western values, which are alien to Muslims, and this led to the collapse of national identity. Ukraine built the policy of a mononational state, where the Crimean Tatars, like other peoples, were assigned a secondary role, while Russia is a multinational country, and its state policy is to support all peoples living in the Russian Federation.
Veteran of the national movement of the Crimean Tatars Shevket Mustafayev said this on the air of “Crimea 24”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“An amazing time has come - the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, a Crimean Tatar, is making aggressive plans and bombing Crimea. Can you imagine? It was impossible to even imagine, but we lived to see this. At this moment, what do we Crimean Tatars need, and how should we react to all this? Still, we must not forget that we lived in Ukraine for almost 30 years, and it is easier for us, but also more difficult, to assess the situation. Because we have not yet fully integrated internally into Russia.
We talk with people and see their confusion. This is a very serious moment. A person, if he is confused, then he does not know where the road is and where the right path is. We must find some kind of hierarchy of values, and if we can develop this in ourselves and in our social consciousness, then it will be easier for us,” he noted.
According to the social activist, the collapse of the national identity of the Crimean Tatars began with the Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation.
“What happened 30 years ago? The Mejlis tried to incorporate the Crimean Tatars into Western values, it pulled us to the West by the ears. The result is the complete collapse of the national movement and national condition.
The confusion of most people who want to do something. This showed the wrong direction of civilization. We, Crimean Tatars, are part of the Islamic civilization - in religious terms, and Turkic - in ethnic terms. Therefore, we must live by these values.
Russia is an Orthodox country. And Orthodoxy and Islam, as my old grandmothers used to say, differ as much as the skin of an onion. The values in both religions are the same, they are called differently, but there are no deep contradictions.
Therefore, I think that when forming our values, we must definitely take into account the fact that we have been living in Russia for many years. This happened before and now,” Mustafayev emphasized.
He added that history does not have a subjunctive mood; there were different periods.
“Yes, it was a difficult story. But today we shouldn’t carry these heavy stones with us - let’s leave it where they lie. We will honor the memory, not forget, but build a new life, which is much brighter for us than it was. Because we live in a multinational country, we are not alone, as we were in Ukraine, where they built a mono-state, and everyone else was somewhere on the sidelines.
In Russia, even the state concept presupposes the development of all nations. Yes, perhaps we don’t feel this enough yet, but this is a temporary phenomenon, and there is no need to evaluate the entire direction today. You need to understand that the process is ongoing. Building infrastructure is not the solution to all social issues. It’s great that we are building a lot, but we still have problems that need to be solved. And I think that in the republic we will find methods and means to solve these problems,” concluded the veteran of the national movement.
