On May 30, the issuance of compulsory medical insurance policies will begin in Crimea and Sevastopol. But whether local hospitals and Russian insurers are ready for this is unknown
Moscow - Simferopol, May 29 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - “On May 30, 2014, the Federal Compulsory Health Insurance Fund begins issuing the first compulsory health insurance (CHI) policies to residents of Crimea and Sevastopol,” says the press service of the Russian Ministry of Health.

The government plans to include the entire population of new regions of the country in the basic compulsory medical insurance program by January 1, 2015, RIA Novosti reports.
Compulsory medical insurance policy is a document guaranteeing the receipt of free medical care in the compulsory health insurance system throughout the Russian Federation under the compulsory medical insurance program.
At the same time, it is not yet clear whether Crimean medical institutions are ready to provide free medical care under such policies. Just last year, hospitals on the peninsula did not have the minimum required set of medications; patients themselves were forced to purchase all medications, as well as scissors, ice and bandages, from pharmacies. “Medicine practically does not exist in Crimea,” many tourists stated.
Let us remind you that according to compulsory medical insurance policies, patients in Russia itself can receive only a very limited amount of services: everything else is for money, and “free” patients have to stand in long lines even in Moscow.
It is also unknown which insurance company will provide payment for medical services not included in the narrow list of the budget compulsory medical insurance to the population. The fact is that at the moment, Russian insurance companies are afraid to open branches in Crimea, fearing Western sanctions.
