5 years in prison and 5 million rubles - the State Duma praised the mockery of the St. George ribbon
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted today in the first reading a bill according to which the St. George ribbon is equated with symbols of military glory, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Desecration of it will result in a fine of up to 5 million rubles and a criminal sentence of up to 5 years in prison.
“The St. George Ribbon today is a symbol of truth, justice, the unification of generations, and respect for the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland. It unites not only residents of Russia, but also other countries. It is important to protect our symbol of Victory, to give a clear legal response to the lawlessness of states that prohibit it,” said the author of the bill, deputy Olga Zanko.
“Today we are making a decision that means affirming for all time that the St. George’s ribbon is a symbol of Russian politics, a symbol of truth and justice,” said State Duma Deputy Speaker Irina Yarovaya.
