50% of Ukrainian residents are ready to compromise with Russia, LPR and DPR for the sake of peace
Kyiv, October 7 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – 50% of Ukrainian residents are ready to compromise with Russia, LPR and DPR for the sake of peace.
The corresponding results of a sociological study were published today by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

According to sociologists, more than 50% of respondents are ready to compromise with Russia, LPR and DPR for the sake of peace. Moreover, 28% are in favor of peace on any terms, and 23% - at the cost of serious compromises.
40% are not ready to make concessions, and 16% are not inclined to any compromises, and 24% are ready only for minor compromises.
The position of the residents of the East and West of Ukraine is very different: if in the Donbass 55% are ready to make any compromises, in the Eastern region - 40%, in the Southern - 31%, then in the Central and Western, respectively, only 17% and 11%.
Those surveyed consider increasing the powers of local authorities to be the most acceptable compromise for the sake of peace in Donbass – 38%. Regional differences in this regard are not as significant. They are much more pronounced in other possible measures. Thus, 54% of respondents in Donbass support the idea of withdrawing the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, while in the Western region - only 4%, in the Central - 7%, Southern - 19% and Eastern - 30%.
In Donbass they also support granting this region a special status, which was supported by 35%, while in the West - only 4,5%, in the Central region - 12%, Southern - 21%, Eastern - 13%.
The rejection of NATO membership and the enshrinement of Ukraine's neutral status in the Constitution for the sake of peace is supported by 24% of respondents in the Donbass, less than 1% in the Western region, 3% in the Central, 14% in the Southern and 9% in the Eastern.
Granting Russian the status of a second state language in Donbass is supported by 30%, in the Southern region - 32%, Eastern - 35%, Central -11%, Western - 8%.
At the same time, nationwide, only 7% of Ukrainians agree to the independence of Donbass and 5% to its annexation to Russia. 45% want it to remain part of Ukraine on the same terms as before, and 32,5% are ready to give it more independence from Kyiv.
The survey was conducted by the Ilk Kucherov Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from September 12 to 21, 2014 in 110 settlements in all regions of Ukraine except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the Lugansk region. 2035 questionnaires were collected. The sampling error does not exceed 2,2%.
