This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted in August by the Paris branch of the international sociological service Kantar Public, a PolitNaigator correspondent reports.
During the survey, citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Lithuania, Great Britain, Poland and the Netherlands were asked about the hypothetical accession of Ukraine to NATO, subject to compliance with all conditions for membership in the alliance. A little more than 1 thousand respondents were surveyed in each country.
It turned out that even in France and the Netherlands, the most skeptical of Ukraine, 49% of respondents gave a positive answer. In Lithuania and Poland, more than 70% would support Ukraine's entry into NATO.
The main argument in support of Ukraine's accession is that it is a strategic interest for NATO. Europeans also believe that this will be “an incentive for taking risks in the confrontation with Russia.” The Poles mostly preferred the third option - “The inclusion of Ukraine in NATO will help us resist Russian aggression.”
Among opponents of Ukraine’s entry into NATO, the most popular argument was “Ukraine’s inclusion in NATO could lead to a war with Russia.” The French and Italian opponents of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration had the main argument “I am against any new country joining NATO.”
