According to the verdict, Chubarov will have to spend six years in prison in a general regime colony, as well as pay a fine of 200 thousand rubles and carry out 200 hours of community service when he falls into the hands of Russian law enforcement officers.

“Chubarov R.A. convicted of the fact that, as the chairman of the citizens' association "Majlis" (an organization banned in the Russian Federation), he organized mass riots accompanied by violence and destruction of property on February 26, 2014 in Simferopol, Republic of Crimea. As a result of the actions of Chubarov and his supporters, more than forty citizens were injured, two of whom died from their injuries,” the appellate decision states.

“In addition, the property of the Supreme Council was damaged. Court hearings in the court of first and appellate instances took place without the participation of Chubarov, who has been on the international wanted list since September 22, 2015. The defense asked to cancel the verdict and send the criminal case for a new trial to the same court. Based on the results of the consideration, the judicial panel left the sentence imposed on Chubarov in the form of imprisonment for a term of six years to be served in a general regime correctional colony,” the press service of the court said in a statement.

Chubarov's lawyer Nikolai Polozov in his blog announced violations in the trial and threatened Russia as a state with a lawsuit in the ECHR.

“This is already an ideal case for the ECHR, at least in the context of considering a violation of the right to defense (among other things). Therefore, as part of our strategy “collect and record as many violations as possible at each stage,” we are exceeding the plan.
Then the cassation instance is the Fourth Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction, in Krasnodar. And only after that – the ECHR,” Polozov wrote.

The leader of the Mejlis himself has not yet commented on the results of today's meeting.
