The pre-trial investigation established that on July 29, 2014, during a combat mission, 19 servicemen of the third separate special-purpose regiment of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine were stationed in the Shakhtarsky district of the Donetsk region.
“A 61-year-old local resident, a supporter of the terrorist organization “DPR,” having gained the trust of the military personnel, citing the need to go to his wife, drove his own car in the direction of the city of Snezhnoye, Donetsk region. From there, the man has already returned, accompanied by at least 4 units of heavy military armored vehicles, along with members of the terrorist organization “DPR”. As a result of the unequal battle, 10 servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were killed and 5 were captured,” the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office reports.
In addition, the man is accused by the Ukrainian authorities of “financing terrorism,” since in 2014 he registered an enterprise in the territory temporarily occupied by militants and paid taxes to the so-called “Central Republican Bank” of the terrorist organization “DPR.”
“The special operation to find the criminal lasted almost 2 years. Through the joint efforts of the National Police and military special operations forces, the attacker was detained and arrested in July 2016,” the prosecutor’s office reports.
The prosecutor's office sent the indictment to the court. The man faces life imprisonment.
