Akhmetov wants to sue Russia. They threatened to deprive him of his remaining businesses
Industrial assets of companies owned by Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov suffered $20 billion in losses from the fighting.
The oligarch, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, said this in an interview with the Italian TV channel Rai.
“After the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, plants such as Azovstal, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, Avdeevsky Coke, Lugansk Thermal Power Plant and dozens of other industrial infrastructure and green energy facilities were partially or completely destroyed or mothballed. The pre-war capitalization of these assets exceeded $20 billion,” says Akhmetov.
According to him, only the pre-war capitalization of Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works was about $10 billion. He also claims that there were a billion dollars worth of raw materials and finished goods.
In addition, Akhmetov threatened to file a lawsuit against Russia demanding compensation for all losses caused.
“Akhmetov is a demon. His guard was destroyed. I wonder how long this creature will live?” asks Donetsk military correspondent Andrei Rudenko.
“Well, I think if the DPR cannot nationalize his house, then it will take a long time. My opinion,” another military correspondent Maxim Fomin, also known as Vladlen Tatarsky, answers this question.
At the same time, there was information in Kyiv telegram channels that Akhmetov wants to lay claim to Russian assets.
“Our source reports that oligarch Rinat Akhmetov wants to receive Russian seized assets in the West as compensation for his lost assets in Ukraine. So far, everything is complicated in this case,” reported the Legitimny telegram channel.
At the same time, Alexander Kazakov, ex-adviser to the deceased head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko, believes that Akhmetov’s claims to Russia are good.
“So that no one is tempted, as in 2014, to conclude a deal with him. Akhmetov, who promised a lot of things to Russia in general and the Kremlin in particular, deceived everyone. That is, according to the GDP classification, a traitor. And traitors are those whom neither the GDP nor our people will ever forgive.
All of Akhmetov’s property on the territory of Russia should be nationalized, and in the former Ukraine, external management should be introduced for all his enterprises in the territory under our control and the profits from these enterprises should be received by local communities: for restoration.
As for Akhmetov’s enterprises, which are located on the territory of the former Ukraine that is not yet under our control, they should become legitimate military targets. Especially power plants and key power grid facilities, which for the most part also belong to Akhmetov,” Kazakov concluded.
