Yatsenyuk appealed to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry and local authorities with a demand to minimize electricity consumption, in particular, “to stop lighting advertisements and government buildings.” “At a time when the whole country is in darkness, we have light fireworks displays in individual regions. This is unacceptable,” he stressed, he was quoted as saying on the government portal.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that he had instructed the relevant ministry to “clearly and daily inform the people of Ukraine about when, in which territories and for how long the electrical energy will be turned off.”
In addition, the prime minister instructed Minister Vladimir Demchishin to take measures to reduce rolling blackouts and shut down “fairly” all regions, including Donbass. “Everyone should be on equal terms,” Yatsenyuk emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier mass protests against power outages took place in the Odessa and Nikolaev regions. The Cabinet of Ministers decided to grant the right to the state company Ukrinterenergo to temporarily purchase imported electrical energy from any neighboring and adjacent countries.
