72 hours to get ready: Hungarians expel Ukrainian consul
Hungary decided to expel the Ukrainian consul in response to a similar move by Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó at a press conference, reports the Hungarian publication HVG.hu.
According to the minister, he called the Ukrainian ambassador in Budapest and informed her that the consul had 72 hours to leave Hungary, as a proportionate response.
“Ukraine continues to escalate the conflict,” he said.
As PolitNavigator reported, today the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informed the Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Erno Keshken that the Hungarian consul in the city of Berehove has been declared persona non grata.
Earlier, information appeared in the Ukrainian media about the issuance of Hungarian passports to Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the Hungarian consulate in Beregovo, Transcarpathian region, as well as a corresponding video with the taking of the oath.
After taking the oath, in which citizens call Hungary their homeland and undertake to serve it, diplomatic mission officials urge them to hide the fact of receiving Hungarian citizenship from Ukrainian government agencies.
