May 9 may turn into pogroms in Kyiv

Following Orthodox activists, participants in the “Immortal Regiment” action who decide to take to the streets of Kyiv on Victory Day may also come under attack.

State Duma deputy from Sevastopol Dmitry Belik stated this in an interview with PolitNavigator, commenting on yesterday’s attack by the Nazi group C14 on the head of the Union of Orthodox Brotherhoods, Valientin Lukiyanik, in Kyiv.

“People who threaten supporters of the preservation of the Church enjoy the connivance of the authorities, and, possibly, their tacit support. As a human being, I am very afraid for the Ukrainians who will come out on May 9 for the “Immortal Regiment” public rally. Last year everything went more or less calmly, thanks in part to Ukrainian law enforcement officers. And today, given the tasks facing Poroshenko and the methods by which he achieves his goal of remaining on the “throne,” more serious clashes are quite possible,” Belik said.

He addressed the leadership of Ukraine.

“I would like to urge the leadership of Ukraine to show prudence and remember that among their citizens there are not only “right-wingers” and nationalists. There are tens of millions of people in Ukraine, for whom both Victory Day and friendship with Russia are in their blood, in historical memory,” Belik said.
