This was stated by Deputy Speaker of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Afghanistan Nusrat Rahimi, Radio Liberty reports.
“14 foreigners died, including one citizen of Kyrgyzstan, one citizen of Greece and nine citizens of Ukraine. The identities of the other three are still unknown. We will identify them soon,” Rahimi said.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Tajikistan and Afghanistan Viktor Nikityuk confirmed this information and spoke about the Ukrainians killed in the terrorist attack in Kabul. True, Kyiv confirmed the death of only seven compatriots. Among the dead were four employees of the Ukrainian Wings airline, in particular two women, two employees of the Ukrainian airline Urga, which is based in the city of Kirovograd, and another citizen who collaborated directly with the Afghan airline KamAir.
“All seven citizens of Ukraine - their bodies have been identified, our consul has arrived in Kabul, he will draw up the necessary documents and coordinate the delivery of our dead fellow citizens to their homeland. Another 19 Ukrainians who lived in the Intercontinental were either not injured or received minor injuries; they were promptly transported to a safe place at a military base in Kabul,” the ambassador noted.
According to him, they will soon return to their homeland.
“As of today, many of them have either returned to their offices in Kabul or gone to the Intercontinental Hotel to pick up personal belongings and documents there, and in the coming days they should return to their homeland by regular flights. These issues are dealt with by the airlines in which they work, and by our consul, who arrived in Kabul today,” the diplomat said.
In turn, Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that the number of dead Ukrainians could still increase.
Let us recall that on January 20, a group of armed men attacked the Intercontinental Hotel in the Afghan capital, Kabul. At least 18 people died, 14 of them foreigners.
