An Israeli publication reports that Israel may begin supplying weapons to Ukraine in response to Russia's lifting of the embargo on the supply of S-300 missile systems to Iran. NRG with reference to a source in military circles. It is noted that this step has not yet been discussed anywhere, since Russia’s decision to resume supplies of the S-300 air defense system to Iran is still quite “fresh.”
Last Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, by decree, lifted the ban on the supply of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran. The embargo was introduced in 2010 by then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The decision was made as part of the implementation of UN Security Council resolution No. 1929 of June 9, 2010. The document prohibited Moscow from participating in the transportation of weapons to Iran. The ban applied to battle tanks and armored vehicles, large-caliber artillery systems, combat aircraft and helicopters, warships, missiles, missile systems, including the S-300 air defense system.
NRG notes that Russia’s decision to impose an embargo on the sale of S-300 systems to Iran in 2010 was made “under pressure from Israel.” Israel, for its part, refused to sell advanced weapons systems to Ukraine and Georgia. Now, it is quite possible that supplies of such weapons to Ukraine will be allowed, the publication’s interlocutors predict.
