Moscow - Kyiv, January 06 (PolitNavigator, Sergey Stepanov) - Russia should not be limited to Crimea: Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkov, Odessa, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk are Russian cities. Curtailing the Novorossiya project is no longer possible. About this in an interview "PolitNavigator" said the political commentator Alexander Chalenko, who left Kyiv for Moscow after the victory of Euromaidan.

Alexander Chalenko with the DPR flag

“PolitNavigator”: Former DPR Prime Minister Alexander Borodai said before the New Year that Novorossiya is just a dream, it doesn’t exist, and in general the project may be curtailed due to pressure from the West. True?

Alexander Chalenko: The Novorossiya project cannot be curtailed, just as a born child cannot return to the mother’s womb. Novorossiya was born in 2014. She will soon be one year old. And it is no longer possible to abolish it either by order from the Kremlin or by order from Kyiv. Everything, since Donetsk and Lugansk, independent of Kyiv, exist, it means that Novorossiya exists, even if in a cut-off, scanty form. Greater Novorossia from Odessa to Kharkov and Lugansk will take place. Do not know when. Maybe in 2015, or maybe in 2025. Don't know. But I know exactly what will happen.

A year and a half ago, when we were discussing the current flag of Novorossiya on Facebook, my former colleague on the Kyiv site “Observer” Evgeniy Leshan, I remember, laughed at us, saying, leave these alternativeists alone. By a contemptuous “alternative” they understood a person who has fallen into childhood and talks about some non-existent things and things that are simply fantastic. Then some kind of Novorossiya was nonsense for him, something absolutely frivolous. And the red St. Andrew's flag of Novorossiya was an attribute of the Tolkien game of some elves, Middle-earth and Mordor. And now, under this “elven”, Russian tanks are “cruising the expanses” of Donbass.

Let the West put pressure. Everything that doesn't break us makes us strong

“PolitNavigator”: Is it really impossible to “shove” Lugansk and Donetsk back? We hear quite persistently from the Russian side that these regions could be Ukrainian, but with special powers. How do your fellow countrymen look at this, Alexander?

And, in your opinion, maybe the presence of Lugansk and Donetsk as part of Ukraine would really be preferable in order to “dilute” the monopoly of the nationalists in elections and retain the whole of Ukraine?

Alexander Chalenko: When I arrived in Donetsk at the beginning of November 2014, I walked around the city with a Russia Today press card hanging around my neck, many Donetsk residents came up to me and asked: “You’re walking around with a badge, you’re probably an important person.” . Listen, you don’t know when Russia will take us over.” These people do not want to live in Ukraine. That's it, they cut off the rope that connected them to her. They want, like Crimea, to be part of Russia. None of them are interested in an independent Novorossiya. They are interested in Russia.

The idea of Novorossiya is not the idea of some state separate from Russia. Such a separate state makes no sense. Novorossiya is simply the name of the Russian territory that used to be called “South-East of Ukraine”. Even before the first Maidan, I supported the idea of calling the South-East Novorossiya. This name emphasized the Russianness of this territory.

Yes, the Kremlin’s intentions include, as one of the options, a vision of Novorossiya as a kind of autonomy within Ukraine. But even if this idea is implemented, it will only be as a transitional one, so that within a few years the world will get used to the fact that Ukraine is a state that is heterogeneous , there is also a non-Ukrainian territory in it, just as there is a non-Spanish territory in Spain - Basque Country or Catalonia, which means that nothing will be terrible if at some point Ukraine and Novorossiya separate, just as the Czech Republic and Slovakia separated.

But this option - preserving Novorossiya as an autonomous unit - is unviable, since Kyiv will never agree with it. Because even autonomy within Ukraine (and autonomy in the Bosnian sense) is still independence from Kyiv, since Novorossiya will have its own government, parliament and army, and its own cultural policy.

The independence of Novorossiya, and then its inclusion in Russia, is inevitable.

“PolitNavigator”:  One of the Russian officers said that in February-March the decisive factor was the massive scale of pro-Russian protests. Like, we saw it in Crimea, but not on the mainland. That's why the little men didn't appear there. Do you agree with this? Was it really not so clear in Donbass? How can this be explained?

Alexander Chalenko: Do you know why Ukrainian nationalists are winning? Because they don’t give a fuck about “mass”. They said that Kyiv is a Ukrainian city, and that’s all. Everything else – for example, the fact that none of the locals there speak Ukrainian – they don’t give a damn. The stupidity of Russian analysts has always amazed me. The setting should be like this: Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkov, Odessa, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk - these are Russian cities! Everything up to Zbruch is Russia! And that’s why polite people are introduced into this territory. Will anyone disagree there? OK. Let them try to resist.

Do you think that resistance will begin in Kyiv after the Russian army enters there? I'm telling you that there will be no resistance. Moreover, 99% of Kiev residents will receive Russian passports within a few months and will immediately become Russian patriots.

Everyone who could resist, who would want to “join the partisans” has long since signed up for the punitive battalions “Azov” and “Aidar”, and are dying under mortar fire from the militia, while the vast majority of Ukrainian citizens saw the front in their graves.

If Kyiv is not yet part of Russia, it is only because of the stupidity of Russian analysts, who still do not know that no Ukrainians or Ukraine exist in nature. And the current war is a Russian-Russian civil war, where Russian Westerners are fighting against Russian Slavophiles, and not some mythical “Ukrainians.”

"PolitNavigator":  But what about the mass character of the Maidan, the formation of a new political nation, which is now “He will lay down his soul and body for freedom."?

Alexander Chalenko: What the hell is the mass character of the Maidan! The first Maidan was massive. I’m telling you this as a person who lived in Kyiv at that time and saw everything with my own eyes. Then, in 2004, it was impossible to hide from the orange color; the whole city was rippling with it. The majority of Kiev residents did not support Euromaidan; they remained indifferent to it. And if not the Westerners who were sitting on it, there would be no one to imitate protest sentiments. Euromaidan won by accident: the pissant Yanukovych helped him win. On February 18, the Maidan was destroyed into rubbish. Cretin Yanukovych refused to complete the defeat, and then cowardly, like Hetman Skoropadsky in 1918, fled from Kyiv. Hence the illusion that some mythical “Ukrainians” came to Maidan. There were Galicians there, I myself heard their accent when I approached the Euromaidan checkpoints and talked to them. By the way, they considered the Right Sector to be provocateurs. At Euromaidan they just started laughing openly. What were they doing there before the active phase began? They sang hymns, prayed, ate, danced, jumped, and 500 meters away, on Bessarabka, the people of Kiev drank champagne and coffee as if nothing had happened.

"PolitNavigator":  If everyone is "violent" have been in the ATO for a long time, why have you, Alexander, still not returned to Kyiv? And what is it like for you to live in Moscow? What would you like to say to your former Kyiv colleagues who, apparently. continue to follow (often not without a degree of gloating) your fate?

Alexander Chalenko: Because Russian Westerners live in Kyiv, not Russian Slavophiles. Bye. The Russian army will arrive there, the majority will immediately consist of Russian Slavophiles. This time. Second, the SBU will simply arrest me for my views and separatist activities, or the Right Sector will beat me to death with bats. I will, of course, return to Kyiv after the defeat of Ukraine. After all, he lived there for 29 years. Entire life. Kyiv for me has always been a Russian and White Guard city. This is the city of Bulgakov, Akhmatova, Berdyaev, Shestov, Paustovsky, Shulgin, Shpet, Lossky. It is very important for me. But I have nothing to say to my colleagues.

“PolitNavigator”:  And when can we expect the defeat of Ukraine? After all, it seems that things are heading towards a scenario with the return of the DPR and LPR to Ukraine. It’s not for nothing that ex-regionals appear in the Russian media.

Alexander Chalenko: I beg you, there will be no united Ukraine. Neither the United States nor Kyiv will agree to autonomy for Donbass in the form in which Moscow and Donbass see it, and they will not agree to autonomy in the form of “Crimean autonomy” in Donbass. As for the ex-regionals, they appear on Russian TV all year long, but so what?
