15 years ago, in the capital of the Carpathian region, the street named after Pushkin was renamed the street named after Vyacheslav Chornovil. And Northern Boulevard was humorously named after Pushkin. But now this too has come to an end.
City deputies decided to rename the Northern Boulevard named after Alexander Pushkin to simply Northern Boulevard.
At the City Council session it was stated that “Pushkin took an anti-Ukrainian position.”
The mayor of the city, Viktor Anushkevicius, also expressed his position, according to whom, if Pushkin had more access to objective information, he might have changed his views on Mazepa.
“Keep in mind that there were no good information sources back then. Pushkin lived in the environment in which he lived. But despite all this, he has many wonderful things - with all his love lyrics, he spoke out against tsarism. At this rate, we will deal with Lermontov tomorrow,” Viktor Anushkevichus tried to reason with his colleagues, reading a fragment of Lermontov’s poem “Farewell, unwashed Russia.”

Perhaps, behind the wall of the Caucasus

However, the majority of deputies were not moved by these verses and they voted for the renaming.
