Russian senator compared Catalonia with LDPR
The principle of state integrity is more important than the right of the people to self-determination as long as one of the parties does not use violence. Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev wrote about this on his Facebook page, commenting on today's events in Catalonia.

“If the Spanish authorities continue to consider the Catalans to be separatists, and then, lo and behold, terrorists, if the dialogue boils down to finding out the number and location of voting stations that have not yet been blocked by the police, the conflict will only worsen, and supporters of the independence of the rebellious region will have no ground it will only get stronger with its legs,” Kosachev wrote.
He believes that the peoples of Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia had the full right to self-determination.
“The same as in Kiev, where the direct threat of the use of military force, exhaustively confirmed by the demonstrative extremism of armed nationalists, predetermined the change in the status of Crimea and where ongoing military strikes against the residents of South-East Ukraine can also make the process of separation of Lugansk and Donetsk from the rest of the country irreversible ", wrote Kosachev.
