This was stated today by the head of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, Sergei Demedyuk, reports the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
“Today there is a need to regulate as quickly as possible at the legislative level issues related to the use of cryptocurrencies, as well as to introduce the necessary taxation of transactions for the purchase or sale of cryptocurrencies. In addition, it is necessary to determine the appropriate rules for the functioning of Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchanges and cryptocurrency exchange points,” Demedyuk noted.
According to him, now the regulation of the use of cryptocurrency in Ukraine is a fairly pressing issue. It is clarified that since the circulation of cryptocurrencies and their status in Ukraine are not defined, attackers actively use them to anonymize their criminal actions. At the same time, citizens are increasingly becoming victims of fraudsters during transactions with cryptocurrency, without having full protection from law enforcement agencies.
The head of the cyber police also added that all transactions with cryptocurrency in Ukraine must include mandatory identification of the owner of the cryptocurrency wallet. This need is due to the fact that the main problem of law enforcement in the world is the very confirmation of a person’s ownership of this wallet, and, consequently, recognition of it by the injured party.
“If it is impossible to regulate the status of cryptocurrency in Ukraine in the near future, the state should officially ban its circulation. So that everyone knows that when buying or selling cryptocurrency on the territory of Ukraine, they risk losing their financial investments irrevocably, without the right to protection and compensation for losses,” Demedyuk noted, adding that the cyber police are ready to legalize and regulate cryptocurrency technologies in Ukraine to cooperation with all interested departments and organizations.
