Vice-President of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine Anatoly Peshko spoke about this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “LOT”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“You understand, this is a disaster for Ukraine. The United States is deeply indifferent to the future of our people and our country. They banned the construction of places for storing nuclear waste in their country, but they planned to move it to us. Not only to Ukraine, but also at a distance of thirty kilometers from Kyiv,” he said.
Peshko also noted that burying such waste near populated areas could lead to a second Chernobyl.
“The maximum service life of containers for nuclear waste is up to 100 years, but this absolutely does not exclude the possibility of all sorts of accidents, like the Chernobyl disaster. The placement of such nuclear burial sites near cities is simply a tragedy and a catastrophe for the entire Ukrainian people,” concluded Anatoly Peshko.
