The Kiev weekly “Mirror of the Week” writes about this today.
“NAC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasize that they have already “inventoried” Gazprom’s assets and are counting on the jurisdiction of European countries, the vast majority of which have signed the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards,” the publication points out.
The authors express confidence that Gazprom will comply with the decision of the arbitration court.
“International law provides serious tools for Naftogaz to enforce these decisions (even if the Russian monopolist appeals the latest decision of February 28). Delay in implementing arbitration decisions will only lead to an increase in the amount of Gazprom’s debt to Naftogaz: according to the head of NAC, a penalty of about half a million dollars is charged daily,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
As PolitNavigator reported, Gazprom announced its intention to terminate all contracts with NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
