The State Duma speaker demands compensation from Ukraine for the annexation of Crimea
As a result of the policy pursued by Ukraine during 25 years of independence, Crimea suffered colossal losses.
The speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vladislav Volodin, said this, speaking from the rostrum of the State Council of the Republic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reported.
According to him, relevant committees should consider this problem and bring issues of compensation to international discussion.
“When Vladimir Andreevich [Konstantinov, Speaker of the State Council of Crimea] spoke about issues related to a fairly large period when Ukraine actually treated Crimea very, very dishonestly, the fundamental rights of citizens were violated: the right to language, the right to education in their native language, destroyed the economies of Crimea and Sevastopol - in fact, annexation. Moreover, there was no legal basis.
In this regard, based on the proposal made, let us instruct our relevant committees, together with the relevant committees of the State Council of Crimea, to study this issue, analyze, calculate how much the Crimean economy has lost due to the destructive policy of Ukraine that was imposed here, how much the people have lost, what rights were violated.
And through our parliamentary structures, European structures, you and I will take and oblige Ukraine to compensate for what Crimea has lost over these 25 years... We need to calculate how much Ukraine owes, and since they are also supported by the European Union, what debts will be transferred to the European Union,” - Volodin said.
