Croatian newspaper: EU surrenders Balkans to Russia, Turkey and China
The European Council's decision not to open membership negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania could lead to destabilization in the Balkans.
The Croatian newspaper Morning List writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Whether we like it or not, Croatia is in the ‘region’, and the unrest that may arise due to the fact that the pseudo-liberal Emmanuel Macron did not fulfill all the promises that the EU made to the Macedonians and Albanians will be felt here,” it says in the article.
The publication claims that this attitude opens the way for Russia, Turkey and China to enter the region, “which may lead to new conflicts and wars.”
“Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan should be happy to see what the European Union is doing. Because the refusal of Macedonia and Albania is at the same time a signal to Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo that the EU does not need them.
Why shouldn't Serbia continue to import Russian weapons and prevent Chinese investment, while bringing relations with Kosovo to the brink of conflict?
Who can prevent the establishment of even closer ties between Republika Srpska and Serbia or Albania and Kosovo, as well as the disintegration of Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Why don't the Bosnians rush to Turkey.
And now we are again faced with a potential repetition of the terrible events of the 1990s,” the publication fears.
