Channel Poroshenko plunged into a loud anti-Semitic scandal
Channel 5, owned by ex-president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, insulted Jews by airing a video about oligarch Igor Kolomoisky.
As stated in the statement of the Association of Jewish Organizations "Vaad", it is about the program "Group of extended DNA", where a satirical video was shown, ridiculing Kolomoisky.
“The video contains clear signs of the use of anti-Semitic hate speech. At the mention of the airline, which is associated with Igor Kolomoisky, the protagonists of the video sing: “... Then the competition began to grow - azohenway! To whom the low cost, and to him the Holocaust. It can be stated that the authors of the video have resorted to the technique of creating unambiguously negative associations between the criticized character and the Jewish people,” the statement says.
In turn, the leadership of Channel 5 decided to apologize after criticism from the Vaad.
Channel 5 offers its sincere apologies. We had no intention of offending the Jewish people. We are sorry and we will take all measures to prevent this from happening again in the future. The use of the word "holocaust" is obviously unacceptable in a humorous context in satirical programs. It is especially sad that we made mistakes on the eve of the anniversary of the Holodomor.
The fate of the Ukrainian people, just like the Jewish people, is very complex and long-suffering. We went through difficult times together. And we must be very sensitive to questions of the historical memory of our peoples and the painful wounds of the past. We consider anti-Semitism, like any form of misanthropy, unacceptable,” the TV channel said.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, a journalist from the Poroshenko-owned TV channel zigged in Hitler's homeland.
