The group will include several thousand soldiers from the ground forces, navy and air forces, ready to deploy within a few days, Rasmussen said. Eastern Europe was chosen as the location for the deployment of forces, Associated Press reports.
The Secretary General said the new military formation would send a clear message to potential aggressors. “Once you think about attacking one ally, you are faced with the entire alliance,” he said.
Rasmussen said the rapid response team would provide NATO with a “persistent presence” in Eastern Europe. Alliance member countries provide military personnel on a rotational basis.
As for relations with Russia, NATO member countries did not make decisions at the summit to refuse to implement the provisions of the NATO-Russia Founding Act, the Secretary General said. According to him, the next NATO summit will be held in Poland in 2016.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko previously said that he was counting on the assistance of NATO member countries in the provision of non-lethal and lethal weapons, including high-precision ones.
