The path to Rostov is cut off: Lukashenko could be “slammed in his own residence”
President Alexander Lukashenko is leading Belarus to the West and will no longer be able to change this course, which will be fatal for him.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this today at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Lukashenko will gradually step on Russia’s tail more and more painfully. The only question is at what point Lukashenko will become unnecessary to the pro-Western forces in Belarus, and he will be brought to the same position in which Yanukovych found himself, when the pro-Russian forces were not ready to defend him, and the pro-Western ones had their own more adequate policies. At this moment he will be asked to leave or slammed in his own residence,” Ishchenko said.
He believes that Lukashenko has been preparing for a turn in foreign policy for many years.
“After everything he said, there is no turning back for him. He prepared the basis for these statements for 10 years, or even more. His state apparatus has been changed. There are a large number of supporters of European integration working there. No one will allow him to turn around sharply.
Now, in order to reach the possibility of establishing constructive relations with Russia, he needs to change his state apparatus for a long time in the opposite direction. But I am afraid that, most likely, the state apparatus will change Lukashenko. I don’t think that he controls government structures in Belarus as much as he thinks,” Ishchenko concluded.
