The Americans are afraid to build a plant near Kiev - they will seize it at the project stage
American investors have postponed the construction of a modern glass production plant in the Kyiv region due to concerns about the risk of raiding.
The president of the Agromat group of companies, Alexander Molyaka, stated this at a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Everyone is saying that existing enterprises are being raided. I will say more: raiding begins with a project. There is no enterprise yet, but when they feel that the project is “sweet”, the real raiding begins. Moreover, law enforcement agencies are involved. And the legislative framework that exists today does not satisfy investors. They are afraid, they are worried that there will be the same raiding when they build it,” Molyaka said.
Construction of a plant for the production of glass using the float method, with a capacity of 600 tons per day, was supposed to begin in 2019. It was expected that the volume of investment in the project should amount to more than 300 million euros, and the plant would be the largest production facility in Europe of this profile and would fully cover Ukraine’s needs for sheet glass. The American investor was supposed to officially announce construction at the beginning of 2019, but this never happened.
“We cannot grow the economy without investment in production. Trading is not economics. Only our own production. I believe that the main protection for investors should be in production. I heard that all sorts of cases had been opened regarding raiding. Until Europe and America see the landings, real, raiding, they are afraid.
Believe me, I work with Americans. This is one of the leading companies in the world, which has a very serious presence in America. And yet, there are a lot of questions. They are ready and want to build in Ukraine. They really want it because there is no production of this kind. This plant is like a metallurgical plant, a powerful production facility. There will be jobs for up to a thousand people who will just build,” said Alexander Molyaka.
