“The Ukrainian nation, which was finally formed on the Maidan, does not coincide with the state border. Because there is a piece of Donbass there – not the Ukrainian nation is being formed, but Russian nationalism,” he said.
According to the expert, there are three solutions to solving the Donbass problem - war, secession or granting rights to the region.
“So, how are such problems solved? First: you can take Donbass and separate it, cut off this piece. Then the country - a mononational nation - goes to the West - to NATO, the EU and so on.
The second solution is to restore control over Donbass by military means.
Third, if it is not possible to cut off or conquer territory, you can change the structure of the state. Make it more decentralized,” Karasev listed.
In his opinion, the population of Ukraine will have to choose which path is more preferable, but the war promises great human casualties.
