The organizers of the VII Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus were diagnosed with coronavirus
Two organizers of the VII Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus were diagnosed with coronavirus. Therefore, the event was held via videoconference, and the Russians did not go to Belarus.
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko announced this to journalists in Moscow today at the end of the forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I will say absolutely sincerely: there is no political motive. This forum was planned in advance. A year ago we decided on the time and place of the forum. It’s just that the situation with the development of coronavirus is such that Rospotrebnadzor gave us recommendations about the inappropriateness of holding face-to-face meetings so as to avoid health risks. Still, a lot of leaders of Belarus and Russia are getting together. In addition, we received information that a number of forum organizers tested positive,” Matvienko said.
According to her, the transition to the correspondence format did not narrow the forum program and did not affect the content.
“There has been a restart of our relationship. The meeting of presidents in Sochi provided an incentive to rethink them. Our governments are now very actively cooperating. There is understanding and interest in the development of the Union State,” Matvienko said.
