Leader of Bulgarian farmers: “Ukraine has flooded our market with low-quality and harmful products”
It depends on the government and deputies how long the unauthorized import of milk powder from countries that are not EU members, primarily from Ukraine, will continue. This was stated by Dimitar Shopov, President of the Association for Breeding Black and White Cows in Bulgaria. The association unites farmers who produce more than 60% of the country's milk, reports svobodnoslovo.eu.
He explained that Ukraine is a country that uses drugs banned in Bulgaria for the production of grain and cereals. These drugs are harmful, the farmer stated categorically, and clarified:
“All animals, birds, absolutely everything is raised on this grain, which is produced with these drugs, and it goes to our market.”.
According to him, powdered milk imported from Ukraine is much cheaper than that imported from the EU. Shopov denied claims of a 30 percent milk shortage in Bulgaria:
“Last year, many farms refused to buy milk for several months. Since there is a shortage, what kind of milk did they refuse?”
According to Shopov, there must be customs control, the unregulated import of palm oil and other products that are added to dairy products is prohibited, and dairy enterprises where violations are detected must be publicly announced.
