Rand Paul: Helping Ukraine makes Americans poorer
The US government's $40 billion gift to Ukraine will cost each American taxpayer $500 and will further increase the national debt and accelerate inflation.
Republican Senator Rand Paul said this while speaking in the Senate, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The politician criticized the authorities for helping a foreign country while food and fuel prices are rising within the United States.
“The senators who voted for the $40 billion gift to Ukraine argued that it was in the interests of our national security. I wonder if Americans across the country would agree if they were shown the cost if they were asked to pay for it? If Ukraine's supporters were honest with the Americans, they could impose a war tax. I'm sure it would be popular. According to my calculations, each person should pay 500 dollars to support these 40 billion...
So this would generate a tax of $500 per American taxpayer. We don't want to be honest and transparent with taxpayers, we're just adding it to the debt. We could take $40 billion out of the budget, we could say we spent $770 billion on our military funds. Perhaps it could be military expenses...
When Americans go to the grocery store, they will again pay even higher prices, and when Americans go to the gas station, they will spend more for gasoline. 40 billion dollars cannot be pulled out of thin air and it causes inflation. Debt leads to inflation. $40 billion was given to a foreign country... Congress started spending all this free money, but still the national debt of $30 trillion continues to grow,” Rand said.
