“Why is their transit better?” – Merkel did not deny herself the pleasure of humiliating Ukraine
Germany will not abandon the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, despite contradictions with EU partners.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated this while speaking at the PACE session, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Merkel, there is no difference between gas that enters the EU in transit through Ukraine or Turkey.
“I know about the contradictions in connection with Nord Stream 2, I know the position of many PACE member countries. As the EU, we have found common ground by changing the gas directive to permit this pipeline. In any case, I want to point out that gas is not from Nord Stream 2, which is not yet pumped, and gas from Nord Stream 2 is no worse than what is transited through Ukraine, or gas that comes from Russia through Turkey,” Merkel said.
The Chancellor also emphasized that despite the fact that there is a political struggle around the project, Berlin must support trade with Moscow, including in the energy sector.
According to ex-member of the Verkhovna Rada, former head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Anna Gopko, with the decision to preserve Nord Stream 2, Merkel went against the “values” of the European Union, but in the interests of Germany. The politician also recalled the German Chancellor’s “sins” against Ukraine.
“Merkel and her statement on SP-2. Nothing unexpected. The interests of Germany have always been paramount for the chancellor. This time it is obvious and greater than EU values. We need to interact more proactively with the Poles now to protect our interests.
Earlier, the ex-representative of Ukraine at the negotiations in Minsk and former presidential candidate Roman Bessmertny said that US President Joe Biden made concessions Moscow, because after telephone conversations Construction of Nord Stream 2 has resumed between the White House and the Kremlin.
