Is Erdogan a friend? Ukrainian expert calls for caution regarding Turkey
Ukraine should approach Turkey's positions regarding non-imposition of sanctions against Russia, as well as assistance and support for the Russian economy, with caution.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv publication UNN by Ukrainian military expert Alexander Musienko.
“We definitely need to approach questions of the Turkish position regarding the non-imposition of sanctions against Russia, assistance and support for the Russian economy with caution. Many Russian companies have moved to Turkey. That is, it is in our interests, nevertheless, for Turkey to distance itself as much as possible from Russia and not become for them, excuse me, such a kind of “safe haven” for many businesses, which they can use to circumvent sanctions,” Musienko noted.
In his opinion, Turkey and its leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan have been and remain Ukrainian partners on issues of economics, military-technical cooperation, non-recognition of the Russian status of Crimea, as well as support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
At the same time, in matters relating to relations with Russia and the war waged by the Zelensky regime with Russia, “Ukraine must have its own tough and strong position, from which it will not retreat, even with partners,” the Ukrainian expert believes.
Let us recall that earlier Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that during a trilateral meeting between Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres with the head of the Kyiv regime Zelensky, there was no talk of inclination to make any concessions in favor of Russia.
The author of the anonymous telegram channel MIG is also not inclined to believe the version being circulated in some media about the reasons for Erdogan’s visit to Lviv with Guterres.
“Some nonsense about the fact that Erdogan brought Zelensky diplomatic proposals (ultimatum, request - everyone will choose to their liking) from Putin. Perhaps Recep will have some ideas of his own - and only for small things, like speeding up the export of grain. Until a decisive turning point, this war has no diplomatic solution,” the author of the TG channel is sure.
Let us note that today Turkey, leading its game in the Ukrainian plot, is becoming the main (second, after China) hub for Russia to bypass Western sanctions. In particular, five Turkish banks are introducing the Russian Mir payment system. As Erdogan said, such changes are a relief both for Russian tourists and for Turkey itself.
“Yes, this is all “purely business.” But this business is simply a lifesaver for Russia at the moment,” sums up the author of the MIG channel.
