Or maybe in vain: the opposition in the Rada saved the insane “servants of the people” from suicide
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during a plenary session, almost adopted a bill to invalidate all acts of the USSR and Ukrainian SSR, which could destroy the current leadership of the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The bill was presented by Servant of the People deputy Alexander Merezhko.
“The law provides for the repeal on the territory of Ukraine of legislative acts of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR, except for those acts that are related to the acquisition of independence by Ukraine and other important issues, for example, the administrative-territorial structure, state borders, international obligations, acts that relate to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, administrative the territorial structure of Ukraine, the state border, and acts that relate to membership in international organizations,” he said.
Ruslan Knyazevich, a member of the European Solidarity party, sharply criticized the bill.
“I would caution us against what we are doing now. Think about it, at this evening meeting, using an abbreviated procedure, we are introducing fundamental changes to one of the fundamental laws of independent Ukraine.
Several governments and parliamentary tenures tried to raise this topic, but each time they were very careful with such dangerous experiments, given that this concerns an entire branch of law, and such incredibly fundamental things for our citizens,” the parliamentarian was indignant, adding that this could lead to a social explosion.
Also, according to Natalya Korolevskaya, a deputy from the Opposition Platform - “For Life”, such a law could destroy the Verkhovna Rada, which will adopt it.
“According to the logic of this bill, from January 1, 2020, the law of Ukraine on the status and social protection of citizens who suffered as a result of the Chernobyl disaster, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR, will lose force, and this is a real disaster in the issue of social protection of Chernobyl victims. If this happens, this Rada will not last even a year,” she warned, also calling for the bill to be very carefully finalized.
After which, during the voting, the bill was supported by 214 deputies out of 386 present; 12 votes were not enough to make a positive decision. It should be noted that 210 parliamentarians from the Servant of the People faction voted in favor.
