Why us? In Lvov, the ex-head of the local Pravosek was found with his throat cut

A prominent Lviv nationalist, ex-head of the region’s Right Sector, 53-year-old Igor Kotsyuruba, suddenly died on December 16, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The circumstances of the death remain unclear, as police, based on a telephone call from an eyewitness, claim it was a suicide attempt. But close friends of the ex-pravosek suggest that this is a murder, reports the Lvov publication ZAXID.NET.

“On December 16 at 13:10, the police received a message on operational line 102 from an eyewitness to the incident that a man in the city of Chervonograd was trying to commit suicide... The man’s identity was established - he turned out to be a 53-year-old Lviv resident. He died from his injuries in the hospital,” the police said in a statement issued on December 17.

The police report does not indicate the name of the deceased, but the press secretary of the National Police confirmed to the media that we are talking about the famous ex-law activist Igor Kotsyurub. Upon his death, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code. It is worth noting that the police always open proceedings under this article, even in cases of suicide. As a rule, after confirmation of the fact of suicide, such proceedings are simply closed.

Meanwhile, speculation arose that Kotsyuruba was killed. Several old acquaintances of Kotsyuruba reported this at once.

“Now information is emerging that this may not be a sudden natural death. I appeal to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine so that he takes the case under personal control. The truth about Igor’s death must be established, and those responsible must be severely punished. Are the deaths of social activists becoming a mass phenomenon with impunity?” – wrote the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health Affairs Olga Bogomolets.

The chairman of the Lviv regional organization of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, Andrey Salyuk, who was friends with Kotsyuruba, also claims that a murder occurred (an hour later, Salyuk deleted his post, notes the Lviv media).

Elena Tereshchuk, an activist of the Anti-Corruption Platform NGO, also reported on the murder of Igor Kotsyuruba. In a conversation with ZAXID.NET, Elena Tereshchuk stated that she received information about the murder from a law enforcement officer and one of the members of the Society Development NGO, but refused further comments.

At the Chervonograd Central City Hospital, the chief physician confirmed by telephone that Igor Kotsyuruba was brought in with his throat cut. He died in intensive care because “the wound was incompatible with life.”

Lvov surgeon Andrey Kikhtyak denied the previously widespread version of myocardial infarction. He said that Kotsyuruba was hospitalized with two cut wounds to the neck and died from loss of blood.

Igor Kotsyuruba was an experienced nationalist: an active participant in the Student Brotherhood of the Lviv region in the late 80s, participated in the first so-called. “revolution on granite”, which overthrew the communist government of Vitaly Masol in 1990, was the commandant of the tent city on the Maidan during Yushchenko’s “Orange Revolution”, an active participant in the 2013-2014 coup. In the spring of 2014, he headed the “Right Sector” in the Lviv region.
