Pensioners of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine held rallies at the buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers, demanding the recalculation of pensions.

Participants of the action came out with posters “Groysman! Recalculate the defenders' pensions! Don’t disgrace Ukraine!”, “For veterans of the armed forces - a new pension! The law is the law, don't press yourself! Sin!”, “Don’t play with fire! A poor veteran is very dangerous!”, “European pensions – European tariffs and prices!”, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.

Pensions for security forces are paid based on their salaries during service, which are much lower than the amounts paid for similar positions today.

The recalculation of pensions for former police officers was not provided for in the law on the National Police, adopted in July 2015. At the end of last year, changes were made to the law, which became the basis for recalculation in accordance with the rank and length of service of current police officers, but the calculation was never carried out.

“We, pensioners of law enforcement agencies, served the state faithfully and truly. We gave this our best years. We defended the state, fought crime, defended public order, the property of the state and citizens,” said Nikolai Mishchenko, a veteran of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Although several tens of thousands of security forces live in Kyiv alone, only a few took part in the actions - about two thousand former police officers from Kyiv and some regions gathered under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and several dozen former military officers gathered under the Cabinet of Ministers.

Many pensioners are trying to get a recalculation in court. About 30 thousand pensioners of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received positive decisions by going to court. However, then the decisions obliging the recalculation of pensions are not implemented.

The meeting ended with a meeting of the initiative group with Deputy Minister of Finance Sergei Yarov, following which it was decided to meet again to develop the relevant documents.

Although the pensioners demanded that the minister’s representative or he himself communicate with those gathered in person, no one came to them.
