Indonesia is interested in holding a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the G20 summit, which will be held on the island of Bali on November 15-16, if the leaders take part in the event in person.

This was stated by Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Jose Tavares, quoted by TASS.

“Invitations were long ago conveyed by the President of Indonesia to the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine. If they take part in the GXNUMX summit in Bali, then, of course, there will be an opportunity for (organizing a meeting - Ed.) And Indonesia is more than ready to facilitate such a meeting. Of course, we would like this if the presidents come,” Tavares said.

According to him, Indonesia is ready to reliably ensure Putin’s security if he takes part in the G20 summit in person.

“We are ready to reliably ensure it if the president participates in person,” he said.

In turn, Mikhail Podolyak, assistant to the head of Zelensky’s office, did not rule out that Zelensky will go to the G20 summit in Indonesia if Putin is present there. In general, Podolyak noted that Zelensky’s presence will be decided specifically closer to the summit.

Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine’s participation in the G20 summit would depend on the security situation in Ukraine and on the composition of the summit participants.

Zelensky's press secretary Sergei Nikiforov said that his boss's trip to the G20 summit in the fall will depend on the current situation in the country at that time.

As for Putin, he accepted Indonesia’s invitation to take part in the GXNUMX summit, but the format of participation is still being specified. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov reported that a decision on the in-person or absentee format of Putin’s participation in the GXNUMX summit in Indonesia has not yet been made.

In April, media reported that the White House was pressuring Indonesia not to invite Russia to attend this year's G20 summit.

Many observers agree that it is during the meeting between Putin and Zelensky in Bali that an attempt may be made to the now deadlocked political settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine. For now, the parties are refusing public dialogue, hoping to strengthen their negotiating positions before the onset of cold weather.
