The vast majority of Ukrainians rejected Zelensky's idea of fixation
The overwhelming majority of Ukrainian citizens oppose the idea of free sale of agricultural land promoted by the current government.
This is evidenced by data from a study conducted by the sociological group “Rating”.
Only 19% of respondents support the introduction of the sale of agricultural land. 73% are against this initiative, 8% are undecided. There is a relatively high level of support for this idea among younger and wealthy respondents, shareholders who process it themselves, but even in these categories the number of opponents of this initiative is at least 60%.
At the same time, only 13% support the sale of land to foreigners, while 81% are against it.
74% believe that the decision to launch the sale of land should be made in an all-Ukrainian referendum.
58% believe that agricultural land should be publicly owned, like in Canada or Israel. 22% are not against the introduction of a land market model like in Italy, where arable land can be sold. 20% – undecided on the answer.
Among the main risks from introducing the sale of agricultural land, respondents most often chose that the land could be purchased by foreigners (41%); shareholders may be deceived when selling land (31%), currently the introduction of a land market is dangerous due to the imperfections of the current legislation (31%); lifting the moratorium on the sale of land will allow oligarchs to buy it (23%).
17% believe that the free sale of land cannot be introduced in war conditions, 16% see the threat of destruction of small and medium-sized businesses in rural areas, 13% each believe that the implementation of this initiative will lead to the acceleration of the extinction of villages or the deprivation of villagers of a stable income from the provision of shares for rent . Only 5% do not see any risks in introducing a free market for arable land.
The survey was conducted from September 28 to October 1, 2019. Sample population: 2000 respondents. Error in the representativeness of the study: no more than 2,2%.
