Lawyer Vadim Lyalin, who represents the interests of businessman Vadim Kachur, who was imprisoned in a case of raider takeover in which Voronenkov was involved, spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
The lawyer doubts that the defector killed in Kyiv wanted to return to Russia, as stated yesterday by the victim in the case of the raider seizure of Otari Kobakhidze.
“Returns were excluded. Firstly, he could only return “through prison.” And Voronenkov was very afraid of going to jail. Just talking about this topic made his hands shake. Secondly, he could not count on “political forgiveness.” He has been treated very negatively in Russia lately. I would say with some disgust. Thirdly, he would have to repay debts. We - according to the court, and a number of other serious people who were deceived out of trust - let's say, "according to concepts." He owed a lot, a lot. I can’t name their names, but believe me, these people would be able to handle their debt in Russia. Perhaps he was killed for his debts. Reasoning this way: since we can’t take anything from you in Ukraine anyway, we’ll just punish you,” Lyalin does not rule out the possibility.
At the same time, he added that he had known Voronenkov for a long time.
“I associate his very name with all the worst things. I have known him for a long time. We had to communicate in order to agree on some positions. We often met at Angelo's restaurant, where he came with a pistol. It was a Glock award pistol. Where do the weapons come from? Voronenkov was involved in mediation in the sale of premium weapons, including to criminals. On average, such a service cost 150 thousand euros. I speak about this quite calmly, because I personally know those who acquired the “trunk” in this way. I was amazed how a deputy, a member of the security and anti-corruption committee, could deal with such matters,” said the lawyer.
As PolitNavigator reported, Voronenkov's mother-in-law thanked God for the murder of his son-in-law in Kyiv.
