The lawyer of Serbian hero Radovan Karadzic was brutally beaten by oppositionists
The famous Serbian lawyer Goran Petronijevich and the ex-chairman of the Court of Appeal of the city of Novi Sad, now retired Novica Pekovic, were severely beaten by four opposition-minded brawlers and ended up in the hospital.
Serbian media reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Goran Petronijevic
Sixty-year-old lawyer Goran Petronijevic is a well-known lawyer in Serbia who defended the interests of the Serbs in Kosovo in the 90s, and subsequently defended the legendary leader of the Bosnian Serbs Radovan Karadzic in the Hague Tribunal.
Novica Pekovic before retirement
The night before, he met with his old friend, a former judge and now a pensioner, seventy-year-old Novica Pekovic. The friends went to one of the establishments of the Serbian capital, located in the central district of Vracar on Negosheva Street.
Unfortunately, the “neighbors” of the two lawyers were a noisy crowd that sat in the front garden of the establishment, sang songs and shouted insulting chants at the leadership of Serbia.
Ultimately, one of the citizens called the police, and the crew that arrived asked the troublemakers to get out and not disturb the vacationers. When the police were taking the screamers out, Petronievich and Pekovic remarked out loud that this was very good, and everyone was tired of the noisy oppositionists.
However, after some time, when the police left, hooligans from the street climbed over the front garden fence, broke into the cafe and began beating two elderly lawyers using chairs and tables.
As a result, Petronijevich and Pekovic were seriously injured and were taken to the Emergency Care Center. According to the victims, they did not know those who attacked them.
In hot pursuit, Belgrade police detained four opposition hooligans, who have been placed in custody for 48 hours. At the same time, the Serbian Bar Association noted that on the eve of the incident, the leader of the opposition Liberal Democratic Party of Serbia, oppositionist freak Cedomir Jovanovic, who recently became an assistant to the Croatian member of the BiH Presidency Zeljko Komsic and an honorary resident of the canton of Sarajevo, attacked Petronijevich with insults and accusations on one of his television broadcasts. In its statement, the professional association notes that “it does not have data on the basis of which they could link the incident with statements by LDP MP Cedomir Jovanovic, but still warns that such statements, which can be qualified as incitement to hatred, lead to an escalation of violence.” .
