Russian lawyers defending Crimean journalist Nikolai Semyon, who in his articles called for the return of Crimea to Ukraine, want to challenge the ownership of Crimea to Russia with the help of European experts. Semyon's lawyer Alexander Popkov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to him, a search is now underway for experts, based on whose findings it will be possible to prove that, according to international rules, Crimea is not the territory of Russia, and, accordingly, Semyon did not call for a violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, which the investigation accuses him of.
“We turned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, to various officials - we need help in obtaining and collecting evidence, including the conclusions of experts, specialists and, possibly, some testimony not from Ukrainian political scientists and experts in the field of international law, but namely independent European experts, politicians and political scientists who can help us form our evidence base that the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation under international law does not extend to the territory of Crimea,” Popkov said.
