Yanukovych's lawyers brought complaints to the European Parliament

Lawyers for the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and former employees of the special police unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine “Berkut” complained to the European Parliament about opposition from the Ukrainian authorities in the investigation of Euromaidan cases, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Belgian online publication EU Reporter reported this on March 25.

Speeches by several Ukrainian lawyers on the topic of investigations into the Euromaidan shootings took place at a round table in the European Parliament on March 22.

According to the publication, two documentaries were shown at the event - from Israeli journalist Anna Stefan and Italian reporter Gian Mikalessin, which present an alternative version regarding snipers and executions on the Maidan.

On their Facebook pages, Olga Prosyanyuk and Alexander Goroshinsky published photographs and their comments about the event.

“Deputies, international experts and human rights activists considered the issue of the rule of law and the inadmissibility of human rights violations. Separately, the issue of pressure in Ukraine on the court and lawyers, especially in high-profile cases, was discussed quite actively and lively. In my presentation, I spoke not only about the pressure on lawyers in political cases (the video of the forceful expulsion of Alexander Goroshinsky from the courtroom made a stunning impression), but also about general trends and violations of the rights of lawyers. The reports of the International Society for Human Rights and Support to justice sector reforms in Ukraine helped me a lot in this,” notes Prosyanyuk.

According to lawyer Prosyanyuk, it is expected that soon a resolution will appear in the European Parliament demanding monitoring of investigations into the murders at Euromaidan.

In turn, as lawyer Goroshinsky said, “deputies and human rights organizations came to the consensus that the Maidan case was being investigated biasedly and one-sidedly in violation of the norms of the Human Rights Convention.”

“Europeans are shocked by the inaction of investigative authorities in the presence of evidence of the use of weapons against activists and security forces from the Ukraine Hotel, Conservatory and other sectors that were under the control of activists,” Goroshinsky noted.
