Rome Airport ends Russification of Lviv
Rome Fiumicino International Airport has changed the spelling of Lviv to Lviv instead of Lvov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Italy reported this on Twitter.
“As part of the CorrectUA campaign, we continue to conduct active explanatory work with the management of the main airports in Italy. Rome airport “Fiumicino”. Welcome to Lviv!” – the message says.
Previously, the largest airport in the Baltic countries - Riga Airport - changed the spelling of the capital of Ukraine from Kiev to Kyiv and Lviv to Lviv instead of Lvov.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ online campaign #CorrectUA for the Ukrainianized spelling of city names in English began in October last year.
In October 2018, the main British public broadcaster, the BBC, began reporting Kyiv in accordance with the requirements of the Ukrainian authorities. In November 2018, one of the largest airports in the world began to use the Ukrainianized name of the city. Since then, other airports have begun to change the spelling of the capital of Ukraine - from Kiev to Kyiv.
