The airport in Simferopol receives a new level of comfort
A new runway is being built at Simferopol airport as part of the federal target program.
The airport's public relations director, Igor Laptev, stated this today on the Crimea-24 TV channel.
“To date, the builders have already lined about 1 km of the strip with the first layer of crushed stone. The new strip is being built on the site of the old strip, which was taken out of service in the 2000s due to wear and tear. Its length was 2800 meters, which did not allow it to accept modern types of aircraft. The new strip will be increased by 500 meters,” Lapin said.
In addition, he added, the thickness of the strip covering will be increased from 60 cm to 1,5 meters.
“It will be made of modern materials: a pebble-crushed stone base, then several types of high-strength concrete. This will allow us to accept any types of aircraft without restrictions,” said the airport representative.
According to him, one of the advantages of the new runway will be its all-weather capability.
“We are currently working on the 1st category lane. When visibility is limited in foggy conditions, aircraft commanders make decisions to divert to alternate airfields. Modern lighting, signaling and radio equipment will be installed on the new strip. This is a new level of comfort for crews,” he concluded.
