The corresponding draft decision was agreed upon at today’s meeting of the standing commission of the Kyiv City Council on issues of culture, tourism and information policy, reports the website of the Kyiv City Council.

It is reported that the airport staff supported the decision to rename, and the discussion of this issue lasted on the website of the executive body for two months. It is also noted that no alternative proposals for other names or comments were received. The corresponding draft decision should also be considered by the permanent commission of the Kyiv City Council on issues of self-government, regional and international relations.

Let us recall that in August 2016, the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was named after Igor Sikorsky. Later, this option became one of three that were considered for renaming the Boryspil airport. At the same time, they actively promoted the idea of naming the Boryspil airport after Hetman of the Zaporizhian Army Ivan Mazepa. But the airport was never renamed due to the disagreement of its staff to make any changes to the name.

Let us note that for some reason Ukrainian nationalists decided to raise the shield of the Russian nationalist, White emigrant and supporter of a united and indivisible Russia, Sikorsky, declaring him a “great Ukrainian.” Meanwhile, Russian nationalism and loyalty to the tsarist autocracy were inherent not only in Sikorsky the son, but also in his father - a famous Kiev professor, a Black Hundred member, a member of the “Union of the Russian People” and a well-known anti-Semite, who acted as an expert for the prosecution in the notorious “ Beilis case."
