Scam in Dnepropetrovsk: scrap metal was purchased for the city metro under the guise of new equipment
In Dnepropetrovsk, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed the management of the Dneprovsky Metro public utility company for purchasing low-quality equipment, causing damage amounting to UAH 2,5 million, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the SBU press service.
“Special service operatives documented that at the end of 2017, officials purchased USSR-era equipment from a commercial structure under the guise of new, which was unsuitable for use in the machining process,” the report says.
According to the intelligence service, the contract amount was 2,6 million hryvnia. In fact, the cost of the purchased “scrap metal” was a maximum of 100 thousand hryvnia.
“The forensic examination established that as a result of the illegal transaction, the utility company suffered damage in the amount of almost 2,5 million hryvnia. According to the conclusion of relevant experts, due to the actions of the management of the control center, a real threat has arisen to the sustainable functioning of the metro and, accordingly, to the life and health of passengers,” the SBU noted.
Now the head of the enterprise “Dnepropetrovsk Metro” and the director of the commercial structure have been informed of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 5 of Art. 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position), Part 2 of Art. 366 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure for those involved in the case is being decided.
