Scam of the century: Ukrainian authorities officially buried the “Wall” project
There is no “Wall” project, advertised during Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s premiership, but there is a project to create an “intellectual border system.” Speaker of the State Border Service of Ukraine Oleg Slobodyan stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is no “Wall” project, essentially. We are trying to move away from this terminology, because we think in images and, accordingly, immediately when we say “Project “Wall”,” the imagination draws a wall that is lost somewhere in the sky, and this, in fact, does not correspond to reality. It would be appropriate to talk about an intelligent border system, when technical capabilities are combined with human capabilities and, thus, we get the opportunity to 100% control the state border line,” the official said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk wrote off hundreds of millions of hryvnia for the construction of a non-existent wall on the border with Russia, which in 2014-15 was advertised by the authorities as the “European Wall” - the future border of the EU with the Russian Federation.
“The government started the “Wall” project, you can call it the “European Wall” - this is the arrangement of the eastern border of the European Union,” Yatsenyuk said, adding that the project will be “the key to stopping the aggressor saboteurs and giving an opportunity, including to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” Forces to obtain the first line of defense against the aggressor, who is the Russian Federation.”
In 2015, 400 million hryvnia were allocated for the project, then an additional 250 million, with this money a chain-link fence 72 km long was installed and a ditch was dug 230 km long, border posts were installed at a cost of 10 thousand UAH ./piece (with their market price up to 850 UAH).
After the resignation of Arseny Petrovich, the project slowed down.
